Calendaring & Slitting Process

Today, we are talking about calendaring & slitting processes continuously.

The coated electrode is rolled to the desired thickness through the calendering process. Roller technology of rolling machines has failed in Korea as many companies have challenged it, and some completed companies are monopolizing it. Controling a wide electrode to the same thickness is not even more complete with the performance of the rolling machine alone. Interpreting stress and strengthening the structure of the machine and the shape and surface of the roller are the products of several studies. This also depends on productivity in terms of speed and technology, so battery manufacturers demand speed improvement, but it is true that they cannot easily increase it.

Slitting is easy process. This process should select facilities that can facilitate variability according to width rather than quality. In the process of developing a cell, electrode width fluctuations are attempted several times. Along with the width of the electrode, the specifications of the winding equipment also change. If the facility is purchased only with the initially reviewed specifications, sufficient liquidity should be considered in the specifications as future production may be restricted. The structure of the facility is monotonous, easy to operate, and frequently replace equipment and materials to ensure worker convenience.

Electrodes wait for production for a long time before assembly. A time difference in production must occur between the electrode process and the assembly process, and if the production type of the electrode is frequently changed, more often occurs. In particular, changes in electrodes due to model changes are more frequent in the early stages of production. In this case, the produced electrode may be stored for more than a month. A place to store electrodes is essential in the electrode production chamber, and the management plan of the space to store electrodes is always directly related to moisture management.

Next time, I'll explain the assembly process additionally.
